Custom Design Policy

Custom Design Policy

The initial estimate submitted in response to a client's custom design request is made in good faith, but is purely speculative and should be considered non-binding. After conferring with the client, the designer will provide a more detailed invoice, factoring in labor, materials, facility, and specialist costs, as well as estimated shipping and handling. (Depending upon the complexity of the project, this estimate may take several days to complete.)

Custom Dimensioned Pieces

Once the estimate is approved, the client must provide a deposit of 50% of the total cost as a materials deposit. This covers the materials, hardware, labor and any specialist services or facilities required to complete the custom piece.

The designer will provide status updates as requested by the client during the construction process, and notify the client of any significant delays. When the project is complete, the client must pay the remaining balance of the total cost before pickup or shipping can commence.

Original Designs

The client must provide 20% of the total cost as a design deposit.  This covers the labor to provide consultations, initial sketches and CAD drawings.

The designer will provide the client with several rough sketches, and take feedback from the client to refine the design direction. Once the client and designer are in agreement over final design and dimensions, the designer will provide a CAD drawing of the assembled piece. At this point the client may make final adjustments to dimensions and/or materials, understanding that such adjustments may affect the ultimate price of the completed design.

After the CAD sketch is approved, the client must provide an additional 30-40% of the total cost as a materials deposit. This covers the materials, hardware, labor, and any specialist services or facilities required to produce the final piece.

The designer will provide status updates as requested by the client during the construction process, and notify the client of any significant delays. When the project is complete, the client must pay the remaining balance of the total cost before pickup or shipping can commence.

Local Delivery and Pickup

Clients in the NYC metropolitan area may have their orders delivered rather than shipped. This is strongly advised for large, heavy, or delicate pieces, as the delivery cost is likely to be substantially less than shipping and handling.

Clients may also arrange for orders to be picked up by themselves or an authorized agent at Stockpile's facility in Brooklyn, NY.

Payment

All deposits and payments made on custom designs are non-refundable. Shipments of custom designs will be insured against theft or damage for their quoted price, or the maximum allowable by package carrier.
See our return policy for more detail.

Please Note

These are general guidelines, but every project is unique. If the production of a piece is likely to deviate significantly from these policies, the designer will notify the client of the necessary changes.
