Noms de Guerre is an ongoing print series from Jake Wright, the creator of Stockpile Designs. Hundreds of images from jingoistic, WWII-era children's literature and military training manuals are twisted into grotesque constructs, addressing the contrast between the U.S. military's aggressive adoption of new technologies, and its antiquated approach to the men and women it employs. A pilot utilizing missiles that strike within inches of a target from miles away will be grounded if he seeks treatment for depression. Advanced medical equipment saves grievously wounded soldiers on the verge of death, but the damage caused by PTSD is only confronted after massive public outcry. Archaic attitudes towards mental health have given America's recent wars a grim distinction: the first in human history with more deaths from suicide than combat.

Archival inkjet print on 100lb French True-White Speckletone, 19 x 25 inches. Edition of 75.
